  1. Identify the exact calculation rule used by your platform (the formula and any terms).
  2. Write down inputs: position size, contract size, leverage (or margin rate), instrument specification, account currency, and the price reference the rule uses.
  3. Recalculate step-by-step using the stated method.
  4. Test sensitivity: change one input at a time (especially price reference and conversion assumptions) to see how much the result moves.

This approach prevents the most common mistake: accepting a margin figure without understanding what it assumes.
