What is Quantitative Tightening?
Quantitative tightening (QT) is a monetary-policy approach in which a central bank reduces the size of its balance sheet after a period of quantitative easing. In plain terms, QT aims to make financial conditions less accommodative by removing some of the central bank’s holdings of interest-earning assets from circulation and/or by reducing the amount of central-bank reserves in the banking system.
